52 Tags Challenge - Tag 36

Tag 36 and the prompt was Slow Stitching. A week to slow down and enjoy the calm of slow stitching with a very neutral palette. Layers of fabric stitched down with a running stitch. A button and some tiny french knots also found their way onto my finished tag. The different textures of the fabric have also been chosen and might not show up in the image. There is some open weave embroidery fabric, some silk, some lawn and some flannelette. Another little piece of lace from the stash and the tag was almost done. I added two tiny over the edge bullion knots at the bottom to keep on with the stitching practice.

Slow stitching is something that I have loved exploring and hope to continue to work on. The slow steady use of hand sewing to embellish a piece of fabric is such fun. I like the focus on the process.

Have you had a go at some slow stitching? What stitch is your favourite stitch? Please leave a comment sharing your thoughts.

52 Tags Challenge - Tag 35

Tag 35 and the challenge was 3 buttons. Along with using 3 buttons we were also asked to find a special piece of fabric from our stash and use this on the tag.

I had a piece of fabric that was just the thing for this tag that had recently been given to me by my Mum. I can remember when she used this to create herself a dress and it is treasured for the memories that it triggers of growing up with a sewing Mum. Also used is some lace that triggers memories of me sewing for my daughter so hopefully later on she will have treasured memories of also growing up with a sewing Mum. The three buttons are from a card of buttons and I just like their sheen and shine.

Fabric and haberdashery stashes can trigger all sorts of memories and I hope that my completed 52 tags will also trigger memories when they are looked back at after this year.

Do you have a fabric stash of treasured pieces. Have you created with any of them? What have you created? Please leave a comment sharing your thoughts.

52 Tags Challenge - Tag 34

Tag 34 and the prompt was "grab a cuppa". Anne gave us the challenge of creating a tag all about having a cup of tea or coffee or whatever beverage you wanted to represent. I sketched out several ideas as suggested in the video to make sure that my final design would fit on the tag.

My final idea was a cup and saucer with the hot drink suggested by the stitched strands rising from the cup. I bonded the cup and saucer on to the tag fabric and stitched around this using blanket stitch and some couched thread with a tiny tablecloth underneath.

I am not a coffee or tea drinker preferring water over most other drinks. Will indulge in a hot chocolate occasionally and love to splurge on an iced chocolate 😀

What do you like to have as a hot or cold drink? Please leave a comment sharing your thoughts.
