Through the Lens - Beach times

We have now started to settle in to travelling with a caravan that was a 10 month wait before getting it as the time for new builds for caravans at present are long. So far only going on relatively short trips as we work out what is essential to have with us before embarking on the long term plan of seeing more of OZ. On one of our trips we did an overnight stopover at Chain of Lagoons camping area on the East Coast of Tassie. A fantastic self contained free camping area right near the beach. Loved taking photos of the beach and creek that runs out onto the beach.

The bright blue float sacs of the bluebottle jellyfish washed up in the waves as we were walking along the beach. They are a summer occurrence on East Coast beaches especially when the easterly winds move them towards the shore. We have had more easterly winds this summer than in previous summers but there will always be a period of time during the summer when people will see these bright blue jellyfish washed up on the beach. They can give a painful sting if you come in contact with them and treatment for the stings include washing off the stinging cells with salt water and then using hot water to reduce the effect of the sting. Do not use vinegar to treat the sting.

The little birds are hooded plovers and they live on the sandy beaches making their nests as scrapes in the sand or the dunes that might be behind the beach.

Camera Time at the Beach

Today was a great day for heading to a favourite beach with my camera.  Low, low tide so lots of new spaces to explore. Love the little crabs that hide among the crevices. Beautiful summer colours with the low waters letting the sandy spaces show up.

Finding the Rhythm of Our Days

Moon Rise by MrsSOnline is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0

Things have changed in our life in the last year and a bit.

Wind back to the start of 2020 and we were planning a knock down of a shack to replace it with our forever house, packing up the mementos of many enjoyable years of shack living, I was settling in to the start of another year of teaching and learning alongside students and staff as an AST, DH was working on relaxing after a big year of helping out with  guaranteeing the future of his local squash centre, looking forward to time spent with grown up children and then...

COVID hit!

We were too far in to stop the demolition and rebuild so fingers crossed we would get there - COVID notwithstanding. The "grand plan" got a bit of a whack but in the end by November 2020 our new house was ready for us.

COVID rocked my working world as well. Boy did I have a year of learning! Not really the year I envisioned as my last year of working before taking the leap into early retirement. I struggled, as did many others, to adapt and roll with the changes. Found out new things about myself - not all of which I liked or felt proud of but also felt that I tried my hardest to continue to give my all to a workplace that I have loved being at.

So we get to the end of 2020 and we have knocked down a shack, built a house, sold a house, packed up and sorted much loved possessions, retired from work, farewelled a father/father-in-law, moved locations and welcomed in 2021! Not much really!

And now we are trying to find the rhythm of our days...

What does a day now look like?

Slow living?

Finding new activities? Rediscovering old activities?

Sharing our spaces?

Finding the together times and the apart times...
